Nose: Fruity & spicy, peaches & apricots, red apples and hints of fresh figs, sultanas, vanilla, oak spice, cinnamon, creamy caramel, orange marmalade and lemon oil. Such a mesmerising fragrance!
 
Palate: Sweet & spicy, rich & chewy too. Mouth-coating with oranges, fresh oak, a little ginger, apples and sultanas, ripe cherries, vanilla, caramel and pears. Despite the high abv the alcohol is so well integrated. Delicious!

Finish: Long & drying, warning too, spicy, ginger, oak, sultanas and black cherries, barley sugar and dark chocolate.

With water: Creamier nose, less spice, more fruit, pear jam, fig jam, Scottish tablet, vanilla fudge, muscovado sugar. The spice is dialled down on the palate too, more brown sugar, darker fruit, juicy plums, black cherries, raisins, dark chocolate, old bookshelves, clementine and hints of liquorice and aniseed. The finish is still drying, quite dark, oak sweetness, prunes, raisins, spicy dried fruit mix, aniseed.

What an experience, this Longmorn 25 is absolutely divine! It is a little pricey but how often do you come across a bottle of older Longmorn? Perfect for any occasion or just to unwind after a busy day...

  Celebrating ‘Try January’ today,  with something new from the guys at Atom brands and their Wormtub 10 year-old release. No nonsense here with a Speyside single malt aged for 10 years, finished in Sherry casks and bottled uncoloured, unchillfiltered and at the natural cask strength of 56.8% No info on the distillery apart from the fact it uses worm tub condensers and there aren’t actually that many distilleries left which use them… (personally, I'd be tempted to think Mortlach...) [Review] Glenfarclas - 21 years old 43%

Before starting with today's whisky, I would like to wish you all a very Happy New Year, hoping 2018 is full of good things for us all! I would also like to thank you for following my whisky journey on the blog as well as on my Instagram page @themaltcask. My resolution for this year is fewer bottles but more from independent bottlers and older ones if I can! So let's start the first post of the year with a slightly older whisky from a distillery I have not really reviewed on the blog: Glenfarclas and its 21 year-old single malt. Glenfarclas have got quite a following as it is one of the only distilleries in Scotland still family run. [Review] Glen Scotia - Campbeltown Harbour 40%

I popped into my local supermarket about a week ago and was very surprised to come across a bottle of Glen Scotia I had not seen or even heard of before. Its name, Campbeltown Harbour. A quick look online and apart from on the official Glen Scotia website, it is nowhere to be seen, so I guess this is a new release. Now what is it exactly? Well I guess it is a new entry point in the range as this is the first Glen Scotia I find which is bottled at 40%. Also, unlike the Double Cask -where it is clearly stated on the packaging- this one doesn't seem to be unchillfiltered, which makes for a slightly disappointing start.  The maturation of the spirit has been done using first fill Bourbon barrels so expect a decent amount of vanilla sweetness. As I have been rather blown away by all the bottles I have tried from the distillery in the last couple of years, I thought I would give it a go.
