[Quick Review] Kyrö Distillery Company - Malt Rye 47.2%

Brand new release from the Kyrö Distillery in Finland with this Malt Rye whisky, distilled entirely from malted Finnish wholegrain rye. The sample I have is from the December set of the Pour & Sip subscription service from Master of Malt, which in my opinion, is really worth having a look at!

Nose: Rye spice, creamy, cereal, vanilla, some fruit notes, linseed oil, fresh wood, a little pine, some sweeter caramel and nutty notes.

Palate: Sweet and spicy, pine wood, pine kernels, lemon pith, hints of pepper, oak, vanilla, a little caramel, nutmeg and cinnamon, cedarwood.

Finish: Toasted nuts (hazelnuts and almonds), sourdough bread. A lot of the spice and citrus notes disappear. This is quite unusual how the flavour changes so radically on the finish. I like it though!

With water: The nose is fresher with more citrus notes. The palate is spicier and the finish gets creamier.

Overall, this is a very fresh and enjoyable rye whisky from a part of the world not known for its whisky. Well done to Pour & Sip for giving their subscribers the opportunity to try it amongst other delightful drams.

Slàinte!
