Probably one of my favourite collaboration today, linking Islay whisky with Aston Martin. And this is courtesy of the Bowmore team, who sent me the bottle for free! I have had a mixed experience with Bowmore and I put this down to one main key factor, the presentation of the whisky. Not the box and label, but the abv and filtration. The standard bottles released at low abv (40%) have not really been that great, butI have really loved the 48%+ releases. Now this 10 year-old is part of a new Travel Retail range that Bowmore have released in conjunction with Aston Martin. You’ll find a 10, 15 and 18 year-old, The 10 years old is aged in a mix of sherry cask and bourbon casks (40%), the 15 in first-fill bourbon casks (43%) and the 18 in a mix of Oloroso and PX casks (43%). The whisky has also probably been coloured and chill-filtered. So let's get stuck in and see what this one is like... My tasting notes Nose: Sweet and smoky, dried fruit, ash, smoke, tropical notes, mango, caramel,
Today, I am looking at a bottle of Macallan Edition 6 with a twist... The whisky itself does not have a twist, it is more the way I came across this bottle. It was actually sent to me already opened by Mark Littler. Mark is a whisky consultants/broker who runs https://www.marklittler.com/ as well as a YouTube channel: Mark Littler With this bottle, Mark has focused on the idea that ‘whisky is for sharing’ and decided to send this bottle to Vin @nononsensewhisky for him to open it, pour a dram and review it, before sending it to someone else, and to someone else... until there’s only one dram left for Mark to enjoy! What a cool idea!!! After @nononsensewhisky the bottle went to @newdramdrinker, to @matts_cigars_and_whisky and now to me. So I shall pour a glass and review it before the bottle makes it’s way to somebody else! So what about the whisky? Highly sought after, these Macallan Editions are probably not opened as much as they used to. A quick look at auction prices and you’l
Together with Bushmills UK, I bring you something incredibly special for Father’s Day: the GB exclusive 1991 Madeira Cask release, part of the Causeway Collection. Bushmills is the oldest licensed distillery with over 400 years of whiskey-making experience, and this 1991 Madeira Cask epitomises the brand’s heritage and craftsmanship. After over 13 years in a mix of Oloroso sherry butts and bourbon barrels, the whiskey spent its remaining 15 years in first-fill Madeira casks before being bottled with no chillfiltration, colouring and at the natural cask strength of 50.2%. This single malt has a story to tell, just like the Giant’s Causeway which gave its name to this Bushmills series. I think it’s time to try it… My tasting notes: Nose: Rich and fruity with plump sultanas, mandarins, vanilla, honey, and rich caramel. Old oak and old cognac with chocolate, some sweet resin and tobacco leaves. The honey turns into Manuka after a little while, with brown sugar, toasted cereal, toast
